Jasujeong Cave, 2.5 kilometers long and measuring about 5,000 pyeong (1 pyeong=
3.3 sq. meters), has two stories connected with each other. The temperature inside this cave throughout the
year remains relatively constant, making it relatively ccool during the summer providing warm shelter during
the winter. Jasujeong Cave has a long history as a jewelry mine, evident in a
crystal necklace from the Shilla period excavated in Kyongju Geumryongchong and on exhibit in the
Kyongju National Museum.

During the Japanese colonization (1910-45), exploitative mining was practiced illegally. And Independence,
local mountain owners continued to mine crystals in primitive ways. However, the cave was nominated as one of
Korea's representative jewels in 1981. The following year Jeil Mining Industry was established for active and
effective mining. Crystals produced from Jasujeong Cave have been recognized as
top quality by the Gem International Association (G.I.A).

GIA, the world's most prestigious gem research and educational institute in the U.S., recognizes
amethyst produced in Eonyang, as the world's best quality. Onyang amethyst has been declared the best due
to the mysterious violet-purplish color, resembling a combination of ruby red and saphire blue, and its
flawless crystals. In Eonyang, the Korea Amethyst Industrial and Tourist Co., Ltd. (tel: (052) 262-2058)
operates shops dealing with jewelry crafted from the amethyst quarried here.

Many nearby galleries and exhibit halls spotlight the local history and culture. The National Instrument
Gallery, Jasujeong Exhibition Hall, and Egypt Gallery are utilized as educational facilities. In the Dokdo
Gallery, tourists can see a miniature of Dokdo Island in 1:46 in scale. Jasujeong Jungdong shows the
mysterious and natural state Jasujeong cave. Other attractions include Sculpture Hall and Performance
Hall.

The cave is located 3 km southeast of Eonyang, near the entrance to Jakcheon Pavilion. The local resort
area runs numerous types of cave tours. It also has various resort and leisure facilities.
